Savannah Blazing Star
Endemic to Florida, found only from Pinellas County down to Lee County! You can see this at Oscar Scherer State Park. It's special! Perennial wildflower with slender, erect stems and narrow, grass-like leaves. It produces dense spikes of purple or pinkish-purple flowers in late summer to fall. Foliage grows to around 1 foot, and flower spikes up to 3 feet tall, with an overall spread of 1 to 2 feet. Will go dormant in winter. Seed grown plants in 4" pots or 1 gallon, shipped in careful wrapping.
•Sunlight Requirements: Full sun
•Soil Texture: Well-drained sandy or loamy soils
•Soil pH: Tolerant of a wide range of soil pH levels, but prefers slightly acidic to neutral soils (pH 5.5-7.0)
•Moisture Requirements: Moist to moderately dry soil, but can tolerate periods of drought once established.
•Tolerance to Salt Spray: Low to none
•Recommended Landscape Uses: Wildflower & pollinator gardens.
•Maintenance Tips: Low maintenance. Cutting spent flowerheads can prolong blooming periods, however, it won't be able to self seed. Save the seeds and share!
