Bog/swamp plant that is a superstar pollinator. The flowers are show stoppers! Dies back in the winter but always returns bigger and better. 1 gallon pots, shipped bare root and wrapped carefully if shipping is selected. 

Attracts hummingbirds.


  • Larval host of  Gray Hairstreak, Painted Lady Butterfly, Common Checkered Skipper and Tropical Checkered Skipper butterflies and  four moths : Pearly Wood Nymph, Yellow Scallop Moth, Io Moth,  and Delightful Bird-Dropping Moths.
  • Attracts butterflies and  native bees (including the Rose-mallow Bee which is a Hibiscus specialist), beetles, etc.

Life Span: Long-lived perennial

Phenology: Winter dormant. Blooms spring-summer.
Habitats: Wet sites. Strands, sloughs, swamps, brackish and freshwater marshes; commonly in water.

Recommended Uses: Specimen plant in moist areas. There is also a white-flowered variant.

always floodedextremely dry
Salt Water Flooding Tolerance: Not salt tolerant of inundation by salty or brackish water.
Salt Spray Tolerance: Low/no tolerance of salty wind or direct salt spray
